U14 week 7
5v2 Rondo
-
✅TECHNIQUE
Can you use good passing & receiving technique?
✅AWARENESS
If you get the ball, where will you pass it next?
✅BODY POSITION
Keep your body facing the ball and teammates so you can move it efficiently
-
✅No restriction on area size but try and keep them within a 10x10yd area
✅1 x ⚽ for each group - 4 attackers, 1 defender
✅Pinnie for the defender
-
✅Keep the ball away from a defender.
✅5 attackers pass the ball to keep it away from the 2 defenders.
✅The goal is to see how many passes they can make without losing possession of the ball.
✅If a defender steals or intercepts the ball, they switch places with the attacker who last touched the ball. If an attacker kicks the ball out of bounds, they switch places with the player who has been defender
💡TIP - don’t worry too much about technique, focus more on the movement of a player off the ball to get into a position to receive the ball and encourage them to ask for the ball and communicate
-
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
-
There are so many technical skills being practiced that help within a game:
Attacking - first touch, passing, awareness, supporting teammates, and communication.
Defending - correct defending technique, teamwork - understanding pressure and cover, communication
While it is a simple concept and fun game, it is used from grassroots soccer all the way to the top of the professional game and has many different variations
Across the River
-
✅COMPOSURE
Stay calm and keep your eye on the ball when shooting
✅TEAMWORK
Work together to get the most success - communicate and move fluidly
✅BE BRAVE
Wide players drive to the line with speed, don’t be afraid to shoot!
-
✅Attacking 3rd of the field - central starting attackers should be starting halfway between the halfway line and the edge of the goal area.
✅Lots of balls next to the attacking lines
The game starts with:
✅2 central attackers
✅2 wide players (alternating plays)
✅2 defenders and 1 GK
✅Cones near the end line to mark where a cross should happen
-
This is an attacking 3rd shooting drill with a cross from wide.
✅2 central attackers start - one passes the ball to a wide player (alternate each time) - the pass should be played at an angle for the wide player to run onto to give momentum
✅Wide player dribbles unopposed to the end line and crosses the ball
✅Attackers should run into the area of the cross and shoot to score.
🏆LEVEL 1 - no defenders to give success and development in movement and shooting.
🏆LEVEL 2 - add semi-opposed defenders (no tackling). The last players to shoot should become defenders, after the rep, the defenders join the attacking line again.
🏆LEVEL 3 - opposed defending - you can add mini-goals for defenders to win the ball and play until the ball goes out.
TIP - Attackers should try and vary their runs into the area to confuse defenders - you can ask questions like ‘how could you make it difficult for defenders when you run into the area?’
After 10 reps, change the wide players
-
✅Change to 2 touches for the attacking team
✅Adjust the size of the zones - smaller zones make it more difficult to possess the ball
✅Add another defender into the end zone
✅5 passes minimum before the pass can be switched across the river
-
Attacking - keeping possession to draw in defenders, before switching to the other side of the field with more space.
Defending - Pressure, cover and balance and being compact are essential to make sure the attacking team can’t break through the defense towards goal and communication can help with that
Transition - attackers need get playing quickly and defenders need to be aware of the immediate danger and try and win the ball back. Transition is important as both teams are not organized so on both sides of the ball there is a need to do this or the advantage will be lost.
Attack the goal
-
✅ATTACKING
Look to get the ball forward when you can, get open for a pass & get wide and make space!
✅DEFENDING
Get compact, pressure the ball, and work together!
✅BOTH
Be brave, encourage teammates and do your best!
-
✅9v9 half-field
✅1 x ⚽
✅1 9v9 goal, 2 mini-goals 🥅 (2 cones work too, if no goal)
✅Attacking team - 3 defenders, 3 midfield, 2 striker
✅Defenders - 1 GK, 2 defenders, 3 midfield, 1 striker
✅Ball restarts with goal kick when the ball goes out of play.
-
Defending the goal exercise is used to develop the defensive unit in a game situation with all the rules of soccer.
The game is played on a half-field as this is the area being developed. Two mini-goals represent a good area for the team to aim at, to get forward through wide areas.
✅Make sure there are LOTS of reps. Each rep starts at half-way with the attacking team going to goal
✅Defenders need to work together and pressure the ball to win it back
✅Attackers should be brave and try and score
Width - Make space/time on the ball to go to goal
Support - help your teammates on the ball
Penetration - Go forward through the defense to goal!
💡TIP: Lots of reps and don’t be too strict on positioning and let the players learn and explore the game by trial and error.
💡TIP: Switch positions after a few reps to give players experience in other areas.
💡TIP: You can explain that the team with the ball is always the attacking team, no matter, if the GK has the ball or the attacking team are in front of their own goal. Alternatively, without the ball, the opposition striker is a defender!
-
✅Less attackers make it easier for defenders
-
The more experience players get in real game situations, the more they will understand the game and how they can find success. Also, how all of the different skills they’ve learned will fit into the game.
The goal is to allow players to experience, have fun and build confidence in this game-like situation with lots of reps to allow for development.
GAME TIME!
What you need:
✅ 1 x⚽
✅ 2 teams (different colors)
✅ 2 goals
✅ All the rules of the game - throwins, goal-kicks, corners, kickoffs and fouls. So they can practice for the weekend!
TIME TO PLAY! ⚽ Allow the players to have fun, be competitive, and express themselves. At this age, don’t impose too much structure. Don’t force passing or stop the play. Encourage and give positive comments on the goal of the session (dribbling) and coach sporadically as the game goes on.
