U14 Week 4

Pass & Move Circle

  • ✅MOVEMENT

Sharp and quick is key to success! Get away from the defender

    ✅BODY POSITION

Open body to face the way you need to go, or Shield the ball away from the defender

    ✅COMMUNICATION

You can use your voice, hand or eye contact to let your partner know where you’re going

  • 10 x 15 yd areas

    Groups of 3 - 1 QB, 1 WR, 1 DB - rotate every 1 minute

    2 yd end zone

  • ✅QB is the Passer

    ✅WR is the Receiver

    ✅DB is the Defender

✅The WR & DB start on a center line, the WR must move to find space to receive a pass and go to the end zone to score

✅The defender gets 1 point for intercepting and dribbling to the QB line

    🏆LEVEL 1 - 🕜60 sec per rep - 5 mins total

✅Hands-only! Just like in The NFL, the QB throws the ball for the WR to receive and go to the end zone

    🏆LEVEL 2 - 🕜60 sec per rep 5 mins total

✅Use your feet! The same as LEVEL 1, but pass and receive with feet.

    ✅Rotate the positions after

💡TIP - Come to the ball - encourage players to receive the ball in the nearer half of the playing area, receive with an open body position and go 1v1

💡TIP - Double Movement - this is where a player fakes to go one way by taking a couple of steps in one direction and sharply moves to another to fake the defender out

  • ✅DB starts on the end zone line to give the WR more time

✅QB is allowed to receive a pass back to allow 1-2 wall passes and combinations

  • Movement off the ball, and getting into space creates time and space on the ball. In the game, support from a teammate is important to get open for a pass for the team to have success moving the ball forward.

Sharp, game-like movement, like a double movement or starting behind a defender and coming close to receive all help and can be used in this exercise to develop passing and moving.

Criss Cross Pass

  • ✅TECHNIQUE

Concentrate on good passing and receiving technique

    ✅AWARENESS

Is your body position good to receive and move into a new position? Are there any other players around you?

    ✅MOVEMENT

Pass and then move into a position to receive further down the field!

  • ✅10 x 10 area

✅4 mini goals or cone goals

    ✅3 per team

✅Different color pinnies for each team

  • 🏆LEVEL 1

✅ 2 teams pass the ball unopposed vertically and horizontally across the square. This develops players passing and moving to get the ball forward from defense to the attack.

    🏆LEVEL 1.2

✅Players can have a maximum of 2 touches

✅Take as long as you need with LEVEL 1 until players are comfortable with passing and moving

    🏆LEVEL 2

With 1 ball, the teams try and pass the ball either vertically or horizontally. Players on the outside cannot be tackled.

If the ball goes out or there is an interception, the ball switches to the other team

    🏆POINTS

    1. Pass the ball from one side to the other - 1pt

    2. Passing the ball through all 4 players in a team - 3pt

  • ✅Make the area smaller or larger

✅Restrict players to a maximum of 1, 2 or 3 touches if they’re finding it easy.

✅Create competition in level 1 to see who can be fastest to 10 end-to-end passing movements.

✅Create larger teams and areas: - 3 central players and 2 at either end makes the drill more complex but also more game-like.

  • This exercise helps players develop and understand passing and moving through the midfield.

You can ask the players to imagine a player at one end is a defender and the other end is a striker, the 2 in the middle are the midfield and they need to move the ball through the midfield.

Passing and moving are essential to move the ball efficiently. Teamwork, communication and awareness are also developed alongside the technical aspects of body positioning and passing and receiving.

    ✅2v2 or 3v3 teams

✅Different color pinnies for each team

  • ✅As a continuation of the Criss-Cross passing exercise, the game is a 2v2 game with the same concepts, rules, and principles to help develop support and width

✅1 team can score in either horizontal goals, the other scores in the vertical goals.

✅Both teams can pass and dribble as much as they like.

✅The team conceding a goal starts with the ball on one of their end lines.

💡TIP - The coach can decide whether a goal is scored with a pass through the goal or by stopping it on the line. Stopping it on the line means fewer balls all over the place and takes more control!

💡TIP - There can be 4 to an area, or play King of the Court - with a rotation of 3 or 4 teams. Whoever concedes a goal is off and the team off the field has to quickly start the play.
