U10 Week 6

Pass Circle w/defender

COACHING POINTS

  1. TECHNIQUE - Ensure good passing & receiving technique

  2. AWARENESS - Look out for other players and defenders and pass the ball to an open player!

  3. BODY POSITION - receive the ball in the direction you want to go next

  • ✅ Circle of 5-10 players, with 2 in the middle

✅ 4 x ⚽ balls with players on the outside

✅ 45 seconds per rep & switch middle players

  • ✅ 2 players in the center receive from the outside players and pass to another outside player without a ball

✅A defender tries to intercept one of the balls.

✅After 45 seconds, switch the players in the middle

✅3 rounds so every player is a defender

💡TIP - Encourage or challenge players to think 1 step ahead - in a real game this gives a player more time on the ball

💡TIP - Players on the inside must move to the ball and have an ‘open’ body position to receive and face the direction they want to go to, which will make more time for them

💡TIP - Encourage the center players to pass, dribble and move and not stay static in the center. Not only will this help them develop in a more ‘game-like’ way, but will also allow them to get more passes and touches

  • ✅Add 3 players into the center to make the play more crowded and chaotic

✅Challenge players to go again and beat their previous pass score. Minus 1 for a misplaced pass or pass to a player who already has a ball

    ✅Add a defender

  • Dynamic movement with passing and receiving is important to develop within the game.

Developing awareness with other players around and knowing the next move will get players to move the ball quicker and make it more difficult for defenders to get the ball.

The focus should be on moving the ball efficiently without rushing

5v2 Rondo

COACHING POINTS

  1. TECHNIQUE - Can you use good passing & receiving technique?

  2. AWARENESS - If you get the ball, where will you pass it next?

  3. BODY POSITION - keep your body facing the ball and teammates so you can move it efficiently

  • ✅No restriction on area size but try and keep them within a 10x10yd area

    ✅1 x ⚽ for each group - 4 attackers, 1 defender

    ✅Pinnie for the defender

  • ✅You can call it monkey in the middle, keep-ball/keep-away and the premise is to keep the ball away from a defender.

4 attackers pass the ball to keep it away from the 1 defender.

✅The goal is to see how many passes they can make without losing possession of the ball.

✅If a defender steals or intercepts the ball, they switch places with the attacker who last touched the ball. If an attacker kicks the ball out of bounds, they switch places with the player who has been defender

💡TIP - don’t worry too much about technique, focus more on the movement of a player off the ball to get into a position to receive the ball and encourage them to ask for the ball and communicate

  • It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

  • There are so many technical skills being practiced that help within a game:

Attacking - first touch, passing, awareness, supporting teammates, and communication.

Defending - correct defending technique, teamwork - understanding pressure and cover, communication

While it is a simple concept and fun game, it is used from grassroots soccer all the way to the top of the professional game and has many different variations

Switch the field

COACHING POINTS

  1. GET WIDE - Use the full space of the area to make it difficult for defenders

  2. SUPPORT - the player on the ball needs passing options - move and communicate!

  3. AWARENESS - think about where the defenders are and where your teammates are to move the ball quickly

  • ✅15 x 30 yd area split into 2 x 15yd areas

    ✅1 x ⚽

    ✅Pinnies for attackers and defenders

    ✅2 mini goals

  • ✅Attackers work together to keep the ball from defenders across 2 boxes

Minimum of 3 passes before the ball can go to the other area

✅3 defenders - 2 allowed in the box with the ball (pressure and cover) and the 3rd can be in the other area (for balance) - if they win the ball they can go to the mini-goal

✅After 3 minutes, switch the defenders

    🎯POINTS

    Attackers

    1. Switch the ball to the other area - 1

    2. Score after switching the ball twice - 3

    Defenders

    1. Win the ball back - 1

    2. Score in mini-goal - 3

💡TIP - The focus is on possession, but the application of pressure, cover, and balance are also developed

  • ✅The possession team needs to pass 5 times to switch

✅Make the boxes smaller to make it more difficult for attackers or vice versa to make it easier.

✅2 touches for the attacking team - 2 touches maximum is what the attacking team should be going for, to ensure the ball is moved quickly, but not rushed.

  • In a game teams get a lot of success getting the ball forward, by switching it from a crowded area on one side of the field, to an open space on the other side.

The principles of width and support are developed in this exercise. The team in possession should be aware of being wide (width or depth) and spreading out, to create space. Passing the ball into space are important to help unbalance and disorganize the defense in order to make it easier to move the ball closer to the opponent’s goal.

GAME TIME!

What you need:

✅ 1 x⚽

✅ 2 teams (different colors)

✅ 2 goals

All the rules of the game - throwins, goal-kicks, corners, kickoffs and fouls. So they can practice for the weekend!

TIME TO PLAY! ⚽ Allow the players to have fun, be competitive, and express themselves. At this age, don’t impose too much structure. Don’t force passing or stop the play. Encourage and give positive comments on the goal of the session (dribbling) and coach sporadically as the game goes on.
